About the National Federation of the Blind

The National Federation of the Blind (NFB) is the largest and most influential blind organization in the United States. The NFB was founded in 1940 by Jacobus tenBroek, a partially blind lawyer who believed that blind people should have the same rights and opportunities as sighted people. The NFB is committed to ensuring that blind people have access to quality education, employment, and independent living.

The NFB’s Educator of the Year award is given to an outstanding teacher who has made significant contributions to the education of blind students. The award is presented annually at the NFB’s annual convention.
